BALLROOM, NEW VOGUE & LATIN CLASS

Class details

KIDS BALLROOM, NEW VOGUE & LATIN AMERICAN! [AGES 13-18 YEARS OLD]

LIFE AFTER BALLET, JAZZ OR HIP HOP IS HERE!

RUNNING DURING ACT SCHOOL TERMS.

Our Teen Ballroom, New Vogue and Latin American Class will instill the time-tested principles of technique, deportment, and respect combined with a modern teaching approach that will leave your kids wondering why they waited so long to start.

Unlike other dance styles, Ballroom dancing is highly inclusive without a focus on negative body imagery, toxic culture of inappropriate dance moves.

There is beauty to be learned with the wonderful art of Ballroom dancing with a bright future of opportunity to take part in medals, performances, competitions, and even further teacher training down the track.

At the end of the year, your Teen will participate in our prestigious Medal day and then be invited to perform at our Christmas event.

Parents Note: Unfortunately we don’t allow parents to sit and watch classes unless permission is given for children requiring supervision. You are more than welcome to wait in the outside corridor. Thank you for understanding.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

F.A.Q'S

Do you still need to know something?
Feel free to send a message via Facebook messenger.

WOW! We are so excited you want to start learning to dance with us!

TEEN CLASSES? If you’re looking at the Teen classes then shoot us a Facebook message and you’re welcome to come along to the next class to try it out for $20.

Otherwise, simply register for each term as it goes.

Gone are the days where you have to dance with someone – at least in the very beginning of Starter dancing.

No, you do not need a partner to start dancing and in fact, Solo dancing is a wonderful way to get fit, stay focused, and renew your passion in your life.

At some stage you may want a partner, after all, Ballroom dancing is built upon partnership leading, and following principles.

But it shouldn’t be the thing that precludes you from starting out and many of our seasoned dancers [been with us for 5-10 years many still don’t have partners] but have improved beyond their wildest dreams.

Private Lessons and Medal class provide the opportunity to dance with a teacher to experience partnership work but it’s not a dedicated partnership arrangement.

You can always rope a friend into coming along with you!

“You don’t need to be great to start but you need to start to be great!”

100% NO EXPERIENCE needed.

In actual fact, the experience can sometimes go against you especially if you have bad habits.

So you are MOST welcome and the primary bulk of our clientele are those who would fall into the raw-beginner-advanced beginner category.

Whilst we do have and train high-level DanceSport champions our business focuses on starting people’s dancing journey and taking them from no experience, two-left feet to…well, the sky’s the limit!

That is awesome you already have the dance bug within you!

The word experience can vary widely and greatly so it’s best you reach out to us via Facebook messenger with the following answers to these questions:

  1. What style/s of dancing did you do?
  2. How many years did you dance for?
  3. How serious of a dancer were you? [Social, hobby, medals, competitor, teacher, professional, etc]
  4. Brief [really short] list of any medals, exams, achievements, accolades, titles you may have
  5. How long has it been since you last danced?
  6. What’s prompted you to want to come back to dance [which is awesome btw]?

Sorry for the freakin’ inquisition but those are questions that will definitely help us to help you!

Ballroom dancing is still a class act but without the stuffiness of yesteryear.

You’re welcome to dress up to your heart’s content and you really wouldn’t be out of place.

However, you can also choose to dress in your own style think smart casual, after work, cocktail, or after 5-attire.

RECOMMENDED WEAR:

  • Skirt [dresses help show the movement of dance]
  • Dress
  • Blouse
  • Buttoned shirt
  • Enclosed low or high heeled shoes

NOT RECOMMENDED WEAR:

  • School uniform
  • Shorts, Jeans
  • Sneakers, thongs, sandals
  • Gym wear

We can’t allow anyone to dance in bare feet.

You don’t need to buy proper dance shoes but if you end up enjoying dancing and join the Improver or Medal class it’s recommended then.

We highly encourage men to take pride in their appearance and to dress well, look and smell good out of respect for their partners and the art.

As we have a strict no refund policy in place we have devised a 4 Stage Dance Plan should any lock-downs, sickness or teachers become unavailable.

STAGE 1: FILL-IN

This one is easy. One of our experienced teachers will step in and the class will continue as usual.

STAGE 2: RESCHEDULE

We will simply move the class to another start date, preferably the same time and day just in the future, you will be notified by email immediately if this happens.

STAGE 3: MAKEUP CLASS

If we can’t reschedule the class then we will make a separate class as a make-up where it makes sense to do so.

STAGE 4: ONLINE [the show must go on!]

If we can’t get a Fill-in or we can’t Reschedule or we can’t logically orchestrate a Makeup Class then, thankfully, we have a high-end production studio we use to broadcast lessons to thousands of dancers across the world we will use.

EXAMPLE: If we are halfway through the month of lessons you’ve paid for and we went into lockdown or teachers were sick [and the above couldn’t happen] we will host our class ONLINE at the same time and day where possible.

You would be notified with a specific login and link to the class and if you couldn’t attend live the replay will be accessible for 7-days.

WE HAVE YOU COVERED NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS – WE WILL DANCE!

Note: If the tectonic plates of the earth’s crust decided to open up and swallow us all and we couldn’t do any of the 4 stages we would absolutely issue refunds on the unused classes.

As we are the largest Ballroom studio in Canberra we come into contact with many members of the public throughout the week.

YOUR HEALTH IS OUR PRIORITY.

GROUP CLASSES AND LESSONS:

We never force people to dance with other people, however, we recognize that life must go on and it’s totally fine for students to dance with students and partners to dance with partners.

However, we do not advise teachers to dance with students yet in Group Classes due to the number of people we come into contact with.

If you do Private Lessons our teachers are not paid to risk their health and it’s their right to choose how much personal contact and how much physical dancing to do with a student.

After all, a healthy student + a healthy teacher means more dancing for longer, overall and that is the win!

We hope you understand it’s for the overall greater good as being sick, it really sucks!
